Formatting an Unformattable Pen Drive… A simple DOS Command

Perhaps these days almost all of us are well aware of pen drives and use them a lot for files transfers from one PC to another or sometimes use them to listen music or videos stored on the flash drives. But sometimes the excess use of these pen drives from one PC to another results into infection with some rare viruses which cause them to malfunction like folders missing, capacity shown less or sometime we even couldn’t format it. The reason for such a problem a virus residing in the pen drive makes the system busy so from windows environment it becomes hard to format it or access it properly. So below is the simple DOS command thru which you can easily format a pen drive :

  •      Goto Start –> Run
  •     Type Cmd & press Enter.
  •     Type the following command line
  •   Format/x G:
  •    Here G: refers to your removable disk drive letter.
  •    Press Enter.
Now I hope your problem will be solved if in any case there is still a problem then I will advise you to download the best tool for pen drives “HP Format disk Utility” which is quite a very good application that can fix a lot of pen drive related problem. Below is the download link:

Delete Your Files Forever, No Way To Recover Them

If you delete your files using the Shift + DEL keys or empty them from the recycle bin, bear in mind that these files are not deleted permanently; they can be restored with some professional software (File Recovery Software). This would be a big problem if you want to delete permanently your sensitive files.

Available as a freeware and requires no installation (portable version), EraserDrop is a utility that allows to delete any file of your choice permanently, malicious users cannot restore it with any file recovery software.

To delete files with this utility, you need simply to drag the file(s) you want to delete permanently and drop it in the EraserDrop's icon. EraserDrop is compatible with the following operating systems:
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7

To download EraserDrop, click here. The setup wizard, will ask you where you want to extract the program files, select either a destination folder or extract them in your USB flash drive, for example.

Preview Real Image Size When Hovering Your Mouse Cursor Over It - Firefox

In most websites, images are embedded in the form of thumbnails which make them very small; this technique is used to make web pages load faster.

If you want to make these images bigger, you can use the Thumbnail Zoom extension that allows users to preview images or thumbnails in their real size when hovering your mouse pointer over them.

Get Started

1. With your Firefox web browser, visit this link and install the Thumbnail Zoom extension.

2. After installing the extension and restarting Firefox, any image embedded in a web page will be displayed in its real size when you hover your mouse cursor over it.

Note: This extension only works with big images displayed in a small size like in Twitter, Facebook, etc.

HOW TO WRITE PROTECT YOUR USB - PREVENT SPREADING OF VIRUSES

Many a time, it becomes necessary for us to write protect our USB flash drive so as to protect it from viruses and other malware programs. Because flash drives are so popular and most widely used to move data between computers, they are the prime target for attackers as a means to get infections spread around the computer world. You can also find some ready made softwares that will solve the this purpose but here I will explain you what basically these softwares do so that you can manually do it yourself. This can be done by adding a small entry to the Windows registry which acts as a switch that can be enabled to make use of the write protection or disabled to allow write access.
Just follow these steps:

1. Open the Registry Editor (Open the “Run” dialog box, type regedit and hit “Enter”).

2. Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\

3. Create a New Key named as StorageDevicePolicies. To do this right-click on Control, and click on New>Key and name it as StorageDevicePolicies.

4. Now right-click on  StorageDevicePolicies and create a New->DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it as WriteProtect.

5. Double-click on WriteProtect and set the Value data to 1.

Now the right-protection for USB drives is enabled on your computer (no restart required) and thus it would not be possible for anyone or any program to add/delete the contents from your USB flash drive. Any attempt to copy or download the files onto the USB drive will result in the following error message being displayed.

To revert and remove the write-protection, all you need to do is just change the Value data for WriteProtect (Step-5) from 1 back to 0. Now write access to all the USB devices is re-enabled.

Cannot use my password to get back into window xp !!!

Because of the security features built into Windows XP, it is virtually impossible to get back into the system without the password.
You have several options to try and get around this problem.

If you have access to another user account with administrator rights, you can use that account to change the password
of the account that is locked out. You can also use the default Administrator account that is built into Windows XP.

First you need to boot the system into Safe Mode.
1.Restart your system.
2.When you see the blue Dell globe or screen, press the ( F8 ) key about 3 times a second.
3.You should get the Windows startup menu. Use the (Up or Down) arrow keys to highlight (SafeMode)
4.Press (Enter) on (Safe Mode), then press (Enter) on (Windows XP).
5.The system should boot to Safe Mode.

Once you are at the Account Log on Screen, click on the icon
for the user account with administrator rights, or click on the icon
for the administrators account.
Note: For Home the Administrator account isn't normally shown & in Safe Mode you have to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys twice to show.
For PRO you can do this in normal mode

When the system has booted to the desktop, use the following steps to change the accounts password.
1.Click Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools.
2.Click Computer Management.
3.Double click Local Users and Groups, double click the folder Users.
4.Right click on the account name that is locked out, and click on Set Password.
5.You may get a warning message about changing the password, simply click proceed.
6.Leave the New Password box blank, also leave the Confirm Password box blank.
7.Click OK, and OK again.
8.Then close all Windows, reboot the system and try to log in.

There are also applications that can recover the password for you.
The following companies provide these applications at a cost.
iOpus® Password Recovery XP here.
LostPassword.com, here.
Asterisk Password Recovery XP v1.89 here.
Windows XP / 2000 / NT Key here.

If the above information does not help in recovering the password, the only option left is to
format the hard drive then reinstall Windows and the system software.

HOW TO CREATE A PASSWORD PROTECTED FOLDER

Do you want to password protect your folder? Do you want to make it invisible so that it remains unnoticed by the normal users? Well here is a way to do that. In this post I will show you how to make a password protected folder in Windows without using any additional software. Here is is step by step procedure to create a password protected folder.

Step-1: Create a new folder (Right-click -> New -> Folder) and give it any name of your choice. For instance I name it as ABC.

Step-2: Now in this folder place all the important files, documents or any folders that you want to password protect.

Step-3: Now Right-click on this folder (ABC) and select the option Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Step-4: Now a new compressed zipped folder gets created next this folder (ABC) with the same name.

Step-5: Double-click on this compressed zipped folder and you should see your original folder (ABC) here.

Step-6: Now goto the File menu and select the option Add a password.

ie: File -> Add a password
Now a small window will pop up and here you can set your desired password. Once the password is set, the folder will ask for the password every time it is opened. Thus you have now created the password protected folder.
